Carrying multiple babies at once puts enormous strain on a mother’s body, and seven fetuses raised the stakes even higher. Bobbi’s doctors were deeply concerned about the health of the mother and all the unborn children.
Medical staff recommended a procedure known as “selective reduction,” which would increase the odds that a smaller number of babies could safely reach full term. It was, in effect, a request to choose which lives to prioritize.
