Volunteers Were Like a Blessing
To keep everything running, the family welcomed volunteers who were willing to pitch in. Community members rotated through the house, giving the parents some relief.
At peak times, a full roster of helpers might have totaled around seventy people. On a typical day, eight or nine volunteers were on hand to change diapers, feed babies, and help with basic care.
